We are happy to announce that the bike project MECANO in Togo, conceived by our partner Echo de la Jeunesse (ECHOJET), will go forward thanks to a grant award made to Cyclo Nord-Sud through the Programme québécois de développement international (PQDI)!

Good news! The Quebec government has finally retroactively renewed the general support grant (known by its French acronym PSMN) that Cyclo Nord-Sud had been receiving each year since 2007. Your support and the many letters sent to Minister Heurtel surely helped to make the difference, and we are sincerely grateful!

Our receipt of the $40,000 grant eliminates the deficit we would otherwise have incurred in 2014. Also, there will be no cash flow crisis this spring; we avoided one this winter thanks to the generous donations made by our members and bike donors these last few months.

We are thankful that the Minister reacted favourably to our requests and letter campaign. Had we lost this grant, which represents 10% of our annual budget, our spring bike drive season would have taken a huge hit.

Unfortunately, the government has so far refused to commit to renewing the grant program this coming year. Working closely with other environmental organizations impacted by these proposed cuts, and knowing we have the support of our broad network, we are sure to be capable of handling any eventuality.

From the bottom of our hearts, thanks!
