Universidad Central Marta Abreu de las Villas

In association with the National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Universidad Central Marta Abreu de las Villas recycles bicycles for farmers and agricultural employees. The association is also involved withthe Materiales Eco-Bamboo Biomass projects. These projects have helped reforest 5,990 hectares of bamboo on unused and distressed land with ecological problems, in the process creating 1,590 jobs and 244 small and medium enterprises, and capturing 436,800 tons of CO2.

// Bicycle Workshop Project

In the longer term, the project aims to create workshops in 10 municipalities, in collaboration with local authorities. Design and operations of each workshop are determined in collaboration with the local community. The workshop will run for at least one year, with affordable prices for citizens. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has provided Cyclo Nord-Sud the funding to buy the tools and spare parts required for the set up of workshops.
